How many green/blue chromis?
Is there a minimum number of green/blue chromis I have to get for my 250L/65gallon Aquarium? It will have a yellow tang and four percula clowns aswell. Plus coral and plenty of hiding spaces.
Ive only had the setup for 2 weeks so It's still maturing. Are chromis hardy or do they require special care? Does anyone recomend any other small shoal fish?
chromis as you say are very hardy and if you feel you are ready to add fish it would be a good idea to start with them. in a tank your size you should be able to have many fish but don't just get a whole lot at once i would suggest not adding the yellow tang or clowns till later even though they are also hardy they are very expensive. so to answer your question the minimum i would get for chromis is 5 though i do not suggest you should get this little. personally i would not settle for less than 10 and for your first lot of live stock no more than 15 though in a tank your size 5 will appear to be more numerous and the suggestion for 10-15 is more for a tank of around my size (8ft-2.5ft-2.5ft). the reson i say this number is that they are a fish that shoals and can only truly be appreciated in schools, they are very pretty as they all swim together then change direction at the same time which results in a different colour refracted from their scales and as i say this only properly works in a group of at least 10 but again in your tank 5 should seem like a larger number.
hiding spots are important for chromis, though during the day they spend most of their time at the top of the tank at night time they usually like to find a place to stay that is covered. mostly they do not stay in the same hiding spot as each other, near but not the same.
IMPORTANT make sure the levels truly have settled because it really sucks trying to get it back together just after starting up, it is SO much better when it all starts well. so seriously be patient it really is worth it it takes a fair while to fix a tank that is getting problems before it is even cycled.
