But have you ever considered that Jesus knew that a pearl was an oyster/clam's way of taking out the trash and that the 'pearl' was just that, a nicely wrapped piece of garbage. Now how then, does that change your understanding (if it does at all) around that verse?
Anything else spiritually gleaned from what pearls are materially and where they come from and why and how that can be correlated into practical daily life? (This is not to discredit the great worth mankind has placed on the pearl as a semi-precious jewel of considerable market value - please speak on that as well if moved to do so)

I take this proverb of Jesus to mean do not waste good things on people who will not appreciate them. Jesus appears to be warning his disciples to preach only before receptive audiences.
You are wasting your time to show something valuable, good, or beautiful to someone who does not understand it's value.
If you are casting pearls before swine, you are wasting your time showing or offering something very helpful or valuable to someone who does not understand or appreciate it.
Example:
Don't bother explaining Shakespeare to Bob. It would be like casting pearls before swine.
Tom Wouldn't listen to Kim's wise advice. She was just casting pearls before swine.
