Question about abalone?
When you're about to eat abalone and you rip the meat from the shell, what exactly is that greyish-black mush that also comes out from underneath the meat? Is it the abalone's excretion? organ? Some people told me it's the abalone's sh*t and some told me it's its stomach/lungs. What exactly is it???
If the gonad (gut area) is green then the abalone is a female. If the gonad is light brownish then it is a male. Easy to remember this. G is for green and girl, B is for boy and brownish. At this stage you may want to squeeze the gut area in hopes of finding a pearl. If you feel something hard in the gut it is probably a pearl.
