Collecting Spider Fangs?
ok, i will put this in hobbies because i would enjoy doing this in my free time.
so basically, i thought about it and figured it would be pretty sweet if i could somehow harvest spider fangs. wether i had to rid them from my house (only when theyre too mean a spider to simply...move), or get them from dead spiders.
i would like to make some sort of necklace or something of the sort from say, wolf-spider fangs. i dont know however, wether or not the fangs degrade after the spider dies; and if not, how would i keep them in a good enough condition to make anything out of them, or simply keep them in good condition. could you even keep them at all?
basically, i would just like a little bit of info on the bodily degredation of a spider after it passes on. if nothing else, i would like to collect fangs.

Spiders are exoskeletons - the skeletal/structural system is outside rather than endoskeletons, like us, who have bones inside our bodies. They split and shed this every so often because it is the only way they can grow. It's a rebirth each time.
As you know some of the dead spiders you find the skeletal remains. The spid has cast it's skin and wandered off to pastures new. You can try and preserve them, possibly by using a silicon/ latex preservative. The small ones probably will degrade/perish over time - even large ones (I've seen plenty of cast tarantula skins) are very fragile, too fragile to wear.
They certainly can be kept in a stable humidity out of direct sunlight, the usual requirements for keeping delicate things, like silk or cobwebs.
The fangs of all spiders are really tiny and not at all related to their venom. One of the largest spiders in the world is the Goliath tarantula which if left to grow can reach 12''/30cms with fangs approx 1''/4cms not very big really. Dogs' teeth are much bigger.
But it is rare and precious. You could contact a person who breeds these beautiful animals to ask for the skin casts.
It might be more interesting to make tiny or even large intricate exact replicas of the wolf spider fangs you find. Examine them under a microscope and make drawings. A good challenge and to no detriment of our arachnid friends.
