Selling Lia Sophia or Silpada?
I'm trying to research both. It seems that I hear more horror stories with Lia Sophia. Everything else I read says Silpada has better made jewelry. But I happen to like more gold tones and I just don't see too much of that with Silpada. I am hoping that someone can give me some insight on selling jewelery all together and maybe why or why not they choose either lia sophia or silpada.

I am a Silpada rep & have friends who sell Lia Sophia. Silpada is .925 sterling silver with copper (not nickel which many people have allergies toward) - the highest quality of sterling silver. We also use natural stones and sem-precious stones like Citrine, topaz, garnet, fresh water pearls, etc. Because it's the real deal, it will tarnish over time which means you may need to polish your piece. If you wear your piece quite a bit or keep it stored with its anti-tarnish paper in a sealed bag, it will need polishing much less often. Of course those pieces with only natural or semi-precious stones or leather won't tarnish.
One of the main differences between the 2 companies is the material used with the natural and semi-precious stones. Silpada is sterling silver. Lia Sophia is not. Their's is a plated material that's not sterling silver. If you never want to polish anything then you want the plated material. Both companies offer a Lifetime replacement guarantee although the terms are slightly different.
Lia Sophia does have much more gold-colored materials. Silpada has gold-filled items or two-tone items using brass. Work with your rep to mix/match your favorite pieces with her Silpada items. We have several pieces that compliment gold jewelry.
Silpada's catalog lists each piece's composition, including those items that are gold filled. Approximately 85% of the company's designs are unique to Silpada.
Both companies prices are in the same range. Silpada's average piece is $72 with almost half the 500 piece catalog at $50 or below. According to the DSA (Direct Sellers Association) Silpada has one of the highest party averages in the industry at $950/show. This means a hostess averages $285 in free jewelry per show. The rep averages $285 in cash.
I heard about Silpada before I'd ever heard about Lia Sophia. I've been selling for 6 years. If I'd known about Lia Sophia at the same time I probably would have still chosen Silpada since it's true sterling silver and I love silver and white gold jewelry. Since they're both in the same price range I'd figure I'd want the real stuff. Of course, having support from your "upline" or whomever introduces you to the business could be the deal breaker too. Having someone who is knowledgeable and supportive compared to someone who is just trying to build an empire or lacks the other skills could have a huge influence on the decision.
