Platinum or Gold?

Ok so my fiance and i are picking our wedding bands and we cant decide wether to get platinum or white gold( by the way the price difference doesnt matter we're looking for durability and quality).I've heard Platinum is way more durable then Gold but that platimun scratches easier and when they polish platinum its like if they are taking a thin layer off is that true?? and another question is it true that high end jewerly stores like tiffany and cartier only use platinum on like their engagment right but is it only in the mount or the actual band is also platinum??

Platinum is a more durable metal than gold. White gold is yellow gold with rhodium plating. This eventually wears off but it can be replated. The longevity of the plating depends on your particular body chemistry and how well you take care of it (avoid abrasives and chemical etc). Gold is softer and scratches more easily. However, platinum does lose its polish and that cannot be restored like the polish of gold. When gold wears, it wears away. When platinum wears, the surface isn't scratched away, it is just 'moved' around. This causes the dullness that you'll notice. If money is no object, go with platinum. It's more expensive than gold but it's stronger and purer.
