Can you get a ring band color changed?
I have a diamond ring where the band is yellow gold. Is it possible to get the ring changed to white gold without buying a new ring?
Will it be expensive?
traci your jeweler doesn't know gold from nothing. white gold is gold just as yellow gold is gold and neither of them should ever have to be dipped or have any other treatment except cleaning once in awhile.
white gold is not gold dipped in silver, it is white gold through and through and should never dull unless it needs cleaning. i have white gold rings from grandparents that are well over fifty years old and they are as good looking now as they were the day they were bought.
as for your question sweetie, take your ring to the jeweler and ask him what it will cost to make the same band in white gold. tell him you want your yellow gold back ........
we had a ring made a couple of years ago 14k white gold with three small diamonds and it was under $350.00 included the gold, diamonds, and the labor! the ring is beautiful.
having jeweler custom made isn't as expensive as it sounds so you go to your local jeweler, not the big box stores, and ask them what they would charge you. make sure you tell them you want your yellow gold back - you can save that and down the road have something else made with it, perhaps a charm or pendant, who knows!
go talk to you jeweler and get a price - i think you will be pleasantly surprised.
edit: luna rose - white gold is not man-made, it is gold plain and simple, jewellers do add small amounts of nickle, or platinum, or similar metals to it to change the color i never said they didn't. but to call white gold man-made is to say it isn't real gold when in fact it is. it requires no additional treatment like dipping or anything, it requires nothing more than cleaning.
meanwhile the poor kid who posted this question is probably shaking her head in wonder at all the different stories she gets so i still suggest she go to a reputable jeweller to discuss changing her band.
